It's that time of year again: ShortBox Comics Fair is fast approaching... We are only 3-and-a-bit weeks away from releasing over 100+ all-new, original comics into your eager (virtual) mitts!
As ever, the fair is an online event and all our comics are digital: they'll be exclusively available at our website from October 1st to 31st. The month-long runtime means you'll have ample time to browse and make your selections. Once the fair is live, each comic listing will feature a cover, 2-4 preview pages, and a brief overview of what it's about- we do this because we really want readers to be able to get a good feel for the comic you're looking at. We also list page count, which incorporates comic pages only- covers, blanks, additional process content or back-matter isn't included in the page count. Our focus is simply on great comics, and presenting them with integrity to our readers.
My absolute favourite thing about putting this fair together is seeing the sheer variation in the comics produced: the breadth of styles, approaches, subjects. It's a microcosm of what I believe comics are and can be, and it's my hope that that's something the fair conveys to you: that it inspires and excites. If I can be frank for a moment: I don't know what it looks like from the outside in, but 90% of running and oragnising this fair (on my tod) is incredibly tedious admin work coupled with social media posting until the brain is fried! But when the comics are submitted I'm instantly reminded of what makes the whole endeavour worthwhile - getting to facilitate the creation of all this wonderful new art and share it with you is honestly the highlight of the experience.
As we gear up towards October 1st, I've been previewing the comics across our social media, and with over 100 comics, 'there's something for everyone' is less marketing-speak and more an actuality: we have slice-of life, sci-fi, romance, adventure, experimental, poetry, furry, gross-out humour, action, auto-bio, fancomics, wholesome, smut, -and the list goes on- by a myriad of fantastic artists from around the globe; some familiar, some new. The images below are just a sampler of some of the magic coming your way this October:
